Case Study Bibby Distribution wanted a better way of protecting beer from getting too warm during the summer months at one of their warehouses. In the past they had used a typical rental company who placed on site a large chiller, an even larger generator and air handlers in the warehouse on the floor. By its very nature this type of installation is a quick fix. The impact on Bibbys’ operation was always significant and detrimental. The coolant pipes were laid out on the floor as were the air handlers. Storage space was reduced at a peak period of the year, damage was inevitable as the trucks attempted to manoeuvre around the equipment, the neighbours complained about the endless noise of the fans in the chiller and the sound of the generator which also consumed vast quantities of diesel and belched out fumes Our solution: After carefully surveying the site we found the existing electrical supply would power two smaller chillers removing the need for the generator and its associated issues. We looked at the configuration of the air handlers and mounted two sets of equipment in the gable sections at each end of the building supplied by a solvent welded 50mm PVC circuit. The pipe work and air handlers were all elevated components, the chillers were much quieter in operation and the flow and return pipes entered the building through sealed points at eve height. | The level of disruption was reduced to zero: No disruption of fork truck movement No reduction in storage space Highly efficient cold air distribution No hot works or complex engineering on site during installation No risk of impact damage to pipes or equipment from fork truck movement No complaints from neighbours due to the quiet operation of our system The reassurance that if one system went down the other would be still running It seems obvious but summer comes round but once a year. We agreed with Bibby a minimum 24 month contract that suited the remaining tenure of the site. The fixed monthly payments covered installation and commissioning, maintenance and servicing (including consumables) throughout the life of the contract and finally decommissioning and removal. You may think the costs of such an installation would be far higher than the quick fix. It was not. Bibby’s saved significantly compared to the previous years’ costs and gained a cooling solution that met or exceeded every possible requirement or concern they raised. |
